Brons’ 5th album “The Fellowship” is inspired by JRR Tolkiens ‘Lord of the Rings’. If you haven’t already, we hope it inspires you to read his wonderful work.

About this song:

The hobbits have lived in blissful ignorance of the darkness beyond their borders, but the eye of Sauron is now turned  towards them. Frodo, who has inherited the ring from Bilbo, decides that he must leave and take The Ring to Rivendell  so that he can save the home he loves from the coming evil. Meanwhile Gandalf visits the head of his order – Saruman –  and discovers that he is now in league with Sauron, and that the nine riders are abroad.

We wrote Nameless Fear with one eye on the threat that faced Frodo and the other on the existential threat of climate  change that we currently face. The idea of a nameless fear that we feel powerless to overcome is familiar to most of us.  Like Frodo we “ knew that danger lay ahead but didn’t expect to meet it here in the shire.” But Frodo, despite having no  power and very little wisdom, decides to go and do something about it.

Listener Notes:

Nameless Fear starts with a heavy 7-string guitar riff calling up the fear that lies beyond the border of the  Shire, and the choruses have a hint of despair and remorse for all that is changing. The choruses call up ideas of the battle  that is to come. The uplifting guitar solo at the end is a portrayal of Frodo’s decision. He is not going to sit and wait for  the darkness to come for him. He sets out with nothing; a small figure leaning into a head wind and pushing towards an  end that he neither knows nor understands but still he goes.

LYRICS

Past the borders of our lives

Dark and brooding, there it lies

Hear the rumours as it nears

Whispers of a nameless fear

We long to stay beneath the trees

Where the river runs

Safe from the peril and the flames

Far beyond

Do you hear the sound of iron feet

The cold relentless beat Of battle drums?

Do you see the fire on the plains

The poison in the rain The burning sun?

Do you know, that the shadows grow darkness overflows into our land

Can you feel, a poison in the air, a whisper of despair is in the wind :

Nameless fear

Whispers grow, Waters rise.

Falling trees and blackened skies threatens all we once held dear

An ever-present nameless fear

We cannot hide under the hill

Till the fire comes

Our road goes ever on and on Till it’s done

Reign – Falling down

Fear – All around

Hope – Holding on

Ride – Through the Storm
